Good post Adam. I would add one thing: teachers make pretty decent money in some places. Here in NW AR, they start at $36,000. The teachers that are not paid much are the ones in poorer areas. Why? Because education is made paid for by property taxes.
This is wrong. Since rich folks tend to reside around other rich folks (and poor around poor), children of wealthy parents who own valuable property get better-funded schools, while the others are left scraping by. This helps create a self-perpetuating cycle of poverty and needs to be changed.
There can not be a problem of disparity. They are using tax dollars and Adam's post says the disparity would only occur if we took the tax dollars out of it.
I would suggest that there is plenty of money to pay teachers. Problem is there are about 2 administrators per kid in school. Get rid of all the administrators and (or make them teach) and you can raise salaries. I would also suggest that the teacher's unions are hurting the system. They are not looking out for kids...
Adam, you were raised properly by the school system. They indoctrinated you into the left way of thinking. You lacked in the other areas because they did not care if you learned.
I went to private school. No I am not rich. My parents made sacrifices, yet we still paid taxes for public schools.
Noonan has a point. The government does not do anythin efficiently. There is no provision in the Constitution for the government to provide education. Perhaps we need to try something else. Why don't you start a petition and tell Congress we want the same education their kids get.
Yeah, I forgot about the property tax situation, Charles. That is a big deal too.
My school did not indoctrinate me into the left way of thinking, Big Dog. University of Arkansas at Little Rock took care of that.
I know the government screws a lot of things up, but I feel we should try harder to fix that system instead of throwing it out. I don't see the government as the worthless machine you guys see it as.
I'd take a lot of the same things the congress gets. Healthcare is one.
