The Rules of War?

Here is a peek into the mind and insight of the right wing lunatic Mark Noonan who writes for Blogs for Bush. Noonan writes, “...the men we hold in Guantanamo Bay in no way meet the requirements of being a POW; they are men whom, if we so wished, we could put up against a wall without a hearing and shoot them...” What a nice guy. I bet he is really great to drink a beer with. I‘m sure he really rants after putting a few away.

Speaking about the detainment, torture, and often times murder of prisoners held in Cuba and in Iraq, Noonan decided, “We are engaged in a sort of war where the other side by definition violates the known rules of warfare - we are, therefore, not bound by them in any way whatsoever.” So be warned, World. If you go and kill Americans in an “uncivilized” manner, you lose your rights to be treated as human beings. That‘s just the way we roll.

He continues talking about the prisoners by saying, “Any mercy we show is entirely out of the generosity of our hearts.” Oh dear us, we are just so generous to these people. We give and give and give, and when we invade sovereign nations, lock up their government leaders, destroy hospitals, schools, water and electric utilities, kill tens of thousands of civilians, these bastards still won‘t kill us in a civilized fashion. Don‘t they know that if they just stopped being “by definition” the way they are, then and only then would we start fighting a civilized war with them and see them as human beings?

Noonan backs up this insane thought process by saying, “We cannot, pace the ICRC, fight barbarians using rules they don't obey - to do so would be essentially to cede victory to them.” Now, if we treat these people like they are human beings while they treat us like mass murdering westerner shitheads, we are going to die. So we must capture as many as possible, deny them a trial, lock them up, torture, rape, and murder them, and never tell their family what happened. It‘s the only way to win the “war on terror.”

In conclusion Noonan writes, “...groups like the ICRC (and Human Rights Watch, etc) have entirely degenerated; they are now groups which just want to tear down the United States - it doesn't really matter what we do, whatever it is will be deemed unacceptable by the international elite.” Oh, the nerve of these groups! It doesn‘t matter if we rape Iraqis in Abu Graib, or murder POWs in Gitmo. It doesn‘t matter that Human Rights Watch has determined we are not being generous towards our enemies, or if the Red Cross doesn‘t like it when we lock up human beings forever with no trial. We just can‘t make them love us. They are obviously not with us, but against us.
