She smiled at me, but the smile was weak. She put her books in the slot and they dropped down into the bin with a dull thud. I thanked her as she walked away from me and back out of the south entrance where she first came through. I pulled her books out one by one, checked them in, and sensitized them to the library security system. Every book she returned was from the Library of Congress section BF 575. According to the subject guides, BF 511-593 ranges the topics emotion, feeling, and affection. I got a very odd feeling when I saw the books. I reached over and grabbed the 2003 Faculty/Staff directory and thumbed to the page which would hold her name if she worked where I thought she would work. Sure enough, there was her name, right where I expected it. HB 575 deals specifically grief, and it left a weird taste in my mouth.
