Next Stop Syria Cuba?

Well, maybe Syria is still down on the list. Yesterday Bush gave a speech in the Whitehouse rose garden in which he hosted guests "for an important policy announcement." Besides speaking a few lines in Spanish and acting smug about it, Bush announced a kind of regime change that will oust Castro once and for all.

ZNet had an article about Cuba and America recently. It shed some light on the embargo and the fact that for the past ten years the United States and Israel were virtually the only two nations in the UN which opposed lifting the blockade. The UN views the embargo as unjust due to the economic and social devastation it causes to Cuba even as I write this. This is ironic since Bush announced in his speech that the Cuban people "have a constant friend in the United States of America." I guess we all have that one friend who makes sure every attempt to better ourselves fails and every chance to take a stand for our rights is diminished.

Michael Moore posted a bit of sarcasm on Bush's speech, condemning it on multiple levels. But he requests we put our differences towards the Bush Administration aside and offer feedback on the situation. One of which is to "Start Thinking Now of Who to Attack After This Cuban Thing Goes Badly." You can always count on Moore to deliver a bit of humor to even the worst situations.

Buy anyway. Why is it that I'm starting to fear that every time a third world nation's name starts popping up more and more in the news and Whitehouse transcripts that another war is on the way? Bring on 2004!
