Next Stop Syria?

Are the war drums now tired of beating to the sound of the Tyrannical Saddam? Some writers and watchers on the left seem to think the tide is quickly shifting to Syria. I have tried to follow the current mainstream reporting on Arafat and Israel's threats against his life but time is short these days.

Mainstream sources tell us that Israel is getting fed up with the Palestinian suicide attacks (again), yet nobody mentions the equal level of atrocities on both sides of this Middle East struggle. The United States supports Israel no matter what they do and a veto on the UN resolution to force Israel not to attempt to assassinate Arafat is a good example. This weekend reports came in of another suicide attack and now Ariel Sharon is even more pissed. President Bush made a few statements condemning the attacks against Israel and is now very supportive of Israel's attack on Syria for housing "suicide training bases."

To me it doesn't come down to right or wrong. I consider there to be a great deal of wrong on both sides. It comes down to the United States looking the other way when murder and mayhem suits our political and economic gain. All of us Fox News Fanatics love a good vs. evil story, and the media loves to leave out just the right amount of details to demonize one side or another when both are equally guilty by our definitions.

So here comes Syria, one of the three recent expansions of the Axis of Evil which joined the list with Cuba and Libya. We bombed them back in the Reagan years and now that the War on Terror is just getting up to embarrassing speeds and November 2004 is still more than a year away, I'm quite afraid this might just be our next Afganistani/Iraqish style evil enemy.

Of course, I want to be wrong. I want to think that Bush isn't stupid enough to attack another country. But then again, doesn't an assumption like that make me just as stupid as Bush? Who knows? The War on Terror now apparently includes the fight over Gaza. Things might be looking up for Israel in the coming months if we finally get directly involved in their affairs instead of just sending them jets and bombs to murder Palestinians with. I grow extremely tired of the Zionist movement in the mainstream media system that makes Palestine look like a bunch of murderers constantly ready for Jihad of the Sword. Anyway. I digress...
