I bought a new pair of glasses today. Pre tests, eye tests, frames, lenses, the works. It cost me 161 dollars. When I said that I wouldn't be buying with insurance, they seemed to try to let me down easy with the final price. They didn't know I'm used to shopping for computer parts and watching prices rise and fall in the chip industry. Anything below two hundred dollars is a price I say only with. For instance, "That's only 100 dollars," and, "That's only 200 dollars." Some people set their only mark a lot lower. They say, "That's only twenty dollars," or, "That's only 15 dollars." Higher than that and you might hear them swallow and say, "200 dollars?!" However, I digress.
It had been four years since I had my last eye exam, and two years before that. The first exam I received, I was told my vision was 20/15 in the right eye, and 20/20 in my left. Two years later in 1999, my vision was 20/30 in my right eye, and 20/50 in my left. Now, four years later, my vision is 20/100 in the right, and 20/200 in the left. That's no doubt spooky, but the doctor tried to assure me that it would level off eventually, and being completely genetic, my near sightedness has simply been hurried along because of prolonged use of computers. My near vision is perfect still, and they didn't find any other problems with my eyes. I'm relieved. I noticed about half way through the semester that I was having trouble seeing far away again like back in 1999. I'm glad to be getting a new set.
So what have I been doing this past week? Well. I burned all my files CD's so I had room to check out the current 10 episodes from the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. They are spectacular if I do say so myself. I enjoy watching them over and over. I can't wait to see how it all turns out in the end even though this is sadly the last season to be made.
I've started work on an intro piece for the 2003 senior graduation video at my old high school. Younger friends keep me coming back to help them continue a sort of tradition I helped start when I decided not to just rip something out of my ass with PowerPoint and present it as the collected works of the 2001 graduating class. The 2002 video I helped complete back in May nearly killed me. I hope this year's goes better than last.
Today I've been writing a new program for my mother after getting snowed out of cutting wood with my dad. It's a program that quickly edits lists of 5000 or more comma delimited entries into a chopped down output version that takes only a few of the data sections from each entry and saves them to a new source. It's taking my mom forever and a day to do by hand so I believe this new piece of software will take out some of the brute force.
All during this time I've been listening to Aimee Mann (Magnolia Soundtrack), Fiona Apple (Tidal and When The Pawn...), Bob Marley (Songs of Freedom), Dave Matthews (Before These Crowded Streets and Busted Stuff). I find the radio all broken and trashy these days, sadly. I used to love the radio, but this current set of songs and the overall style I'm into just isn't played on the stations I pick up. That's alright though. Winamp still whips the llama's ass.
I need a new mouse. I gave my spare away, and my current one wore out quickly after. It figures. I'll write more later. I understand my blog is stagnating. I warn others not to let theirs get this way, but I'm just going through some crazy stuff in my head that I can't seem to put into text without sounding absurd. Stick around though. Dreams pass in time.
