      Save Me

I watched Magnolia tonight. It is a movie set in a single day in San Fernando Valley, where the most unlikely group of people fall into each others lives. The film is twisted around music by musical artist Aimee Mann, whose lyrics and tones bring the movie to a completely new level. A friend told me she liked the movie a lot, so I gave it a shot. It's pretty intense. It's very intense. Ok, so it's extremely intense.

This twisting movie contains many actors. I only recognized two. These are Tom Cruise, who plays Frank Mackey, a so called television guru of female seduction and manipulation, and Willliam H. Macy, who plays the character Donnie Smith, an aging throwaway quiz show star from the 1960's. I'll go pretty far to say that I haven't seen a movie so well acted in a long, long time. Intensity can crack even the most experienced actors it seems. This crew withstood the test. Some scenes we're absolutely amazing.

The movie's script writer Paul Thomas Anderson adapted the screenplay around Aimee Mann's music and created this movie. Anderson claims to have constructed the nine separate interweaving stories by working backwards from the single line in one of Mann's songs with reads, "Now that I've met you, would you object to never seeing me again?" You can read more information about this aspect of the movie here.

The movie contains strong language, and intense scenes. I highly suggest this movie to anybody who is old enough to understand the situations. I do warn you though. This movie is not a feel good movie. This is not a good time. I found myself on the edge of my seat most of the way and enjoying every second of it. I plan on watching it again as soon as I can. The trouble is finding a slot to drop a three hour movie into.
